Who we are
Welcome — I’m D’Vaughn Delpit, LMSW, LCDC
Founder & Therapist at Ember & Root Counseling, PLLC
I believe healing happens when we feel safe enough to be fully seen. For many, substance use, trauma, or overwhelming emotions are not just “bad choices” but ways of surviving pain. My role is to walk alongside you as you untangle those roots, discover new coping tools, and build a life that feels steady, authentic, and yours.
With years of experience in addiction and mental health treatment, I specialize in supporting Black men and BIPOC communities who are often underserved or misunderstood in traditional therapy spaces. At Ember & Root, you don’t have to leave pieces of your identity at the door — all of you is welcome here.
My Approach
I use a trauma-informed, culturally responsive lens with every person I meet. That means:
Safety first — I create a space free of judgment where you can bring your whole story.
Collaboration — we’ll set goals together and move at your pace.
Flexibility — whether your path is harm reduction, abstinence, or somewhere in between, we’ll tailor care to fit your life.
Evidence-based tools — including Motivational Interviewing, CBT, mindfulness, and relapse prevention strategies.
Healing isn’t linear. Some days feel like progress, some feel heavy. That’s okay — we work with it all.
Why “Ember & Root”?
An ember is the small spark that can grow into a steady fire. A root grounds us, holding us steady even in storms. Together, they remind us that transformation begins with small steps and is sustained by deep connection.
Outside the Therapy Room
When I’m not in session, you’ll usually find me with my wife and our three girls — they keep life busy, fun, and full of laughter. I’m also a big fan of sports, video games, and anime, and I love finding new places to explore when we travel as a family.
These everyday joys keep me grounded and remind me that growth, connection, and play are just as important outside the therapy room as they are inside it.
